Following Production Processes P3 (d)

Following Production Processes P3 (d)
in this posting i will be displaying and explaining how i followed correct production processes.

following production processes

deciding on the track was a very hard decision, I wanted to produced a fast paced, stricking music video that could include many different filming and editing techniques. I chose 'come with me now' as It already had a strong storyline that could be represented through the music video, and the song has diverse  sections that would be able to be divided into separate ares of filming, enabling me to have two separate styles of film running coherently,

The planning stage was one of the most vital sections of the whole music video, listening to the song and deciding what it meant and creating a new concept idea for a music video was the most difficult factor of the overall production. starting with the understanding of the song, coming up with ideas which could easily tell the storyline within the song was important , this helped give me the first script, helping me produce ideas, and also filming techniques and styles used in the finished product.

How To Achieve The Final Product

After coming up with my initial plans, I begin with the development of a in depth design which will  enable me to make a professional standard video. The planning of the music video is essential for the success of the video, enabling me to know the way I should present the theme, as well as forming the foundational structure of my music video.

Storyboarding enabled us to came up with ideas and add more depth to the story, which for most of the narrative was the lyrics , and because the audio has a lot of narrative already listen to it, it was easy to form a good plan for a video that will back up the track. Also I analysed the words to make a script, I then based my narrative on it . The comments on the script put more detail into the concept , providing me with more ideas to take my music video into the next stages, which is filming.

Planning the shot list allows me to provide step-by-step instructions on my filming and in what order. This document allows me to stay organised which makes sure the video will be top quality because of in depth planning and organisation. and therefore improving the  narrative of the final product.

RECCE
is a vital part of my music video. going to locations and making sure the location is appropriate for the video before actually filming there. If the location isn't suitable it might make poor footage due to disorganisation, and If i got to an unsuitable film location i will then have,to relocate and jeopardise the quality of my final music video as i will then have to rush the filming to meet the deadline. Also it helped me to instigate initial thoughts on the shots I would be taking, allowing me to plan camera angles, lighting and what footage would look good in different locations.

Mise-En-Scene was in the music video to create emphasise and create a running theme for the music video. For the band and instrumental scenes, I ensured that all clothing used in shoots where the same through out to keep continuity.

I also have to organise and choose the correct equipment to use for my video. After creating my shot list, I had a good theory of what lenses I will need to make the most professional looking video. the use of a 50mm lens for some clips allow me to create a 'human eye effect', giving the video a true perspective of what is occurring in the shot, allowing me to keep them engaged and involved with the music video.

Was My Concept Achieved

I think that my original concept was achieved by my final music video, following the narrative given by the lyrics, giving a well rounded, captivating round-up of selling his soul to the devil

Following Safe working practices P3 (c)

here i am displaying how I followed safe working practises I created this by using my risk assent and displaying how i changed and managed the risks

jumping down stairs

as you can see in the middle of the film the main character is running and then jumping down stairs there was a risk that the character could fall when running and jumping we took this into account when deciding where to shoot this shot we decided on a corridor with carpet so that if he fell his landing would be cushioned we also used crash mats.
the shot below shows Gareth running down the hall way we had to clear the hall way before hand so he did't fall

Hit by a car crossing the road
while crossing the road from the school to the path across the street there was a high risk that he would get hit by a car  this is because we filmed it in a high traffic area we tried to minimise the risk by filming during an off peak time in the day.

Little lighting increased risk of tripping
because we where filming in the dark there is a moderate risk that we could trip over wires or other objects to minimise the risk we went out during the light and made sure the path was clear we also gave out flash lights to all the people working on the shoot this allowed them to see where they are going when not filming,

Lighting
during some of the indoor scenes we needed to set up lighting this was to allow us to create a professional product we wanted to use lighting during the running scene  this added a new danger which was the wires we had to tape these wires down to reduce the chance of the actor falling over while running down the hall.

Relevant certification &/or Scheduling P2 (h)

Certificating media products
here i will be discussing and explaining how music videos are certificated.

The release date:05/5/16
distribution channels: The media channels my music video will be viewed on will be MTV youtube and on the radio this will allow me to reach the largest audience and best promote come with me now

"come with me now" Certification PG
After doing some research in to the ways in which the British Board of Film Classification certificate video footage, I believe our music video should be given a PG rating, this is because there is no unsettling or offensive footage at any part of the video, however there is just one mildly scary part, which would mean it would not fall into the 'U' category. I have thoroughly looked into U, PG and  and can confirm my video for 'come with me now' will be certificated as PG.

Certificating media products and music videos is a very important  part of the creation and planning process, before the project can be released . This is to assure the viewers know what they are about to witness when watching the video. It is the first defence to stop younger viewers witnessing improper  and unsuitable footage for their age , avoiding exposure of inappropriate footage to young viewers.

Audiences must be made aware of the certification before making a final decision about  watching the film, television show or music video, as it will depict the type of images the video contains.

BBFC give movies age rankings by comparing the video to a set of rules they have allowing them to rate which category a movie will be. The categories ago from a  U, (a universal piece of footage that is suitable for all ages and audiences) to 18 (a video only suitable for adults as it may contain harmful or offensive footage)

In modern years, music videos are the most viewed media products on the web, slowly taking the viewers away from television. in this case it is likely that when shown to the public, 'come with me now' music video will be published on a variety of media player websites such as YouTube, and then expand to social media website such as Facebook and Twitter. As come with me now has bee rated  PG, the music video will be able to be played on television at all times during the day on music channels such as MTV and Kerrang, meaning there will be wide access to people viewing the video, with little restriction.

It is likely that it will be viewed on a number of different  YouTube accounts including universal musics on channel, and the band's. These both have a large number of subscribers and therefore increase the amount of viewers whom are able to access the video.

the information below  about certification and how films are categorised into the various certificate ratings. This research allowed me to accuralty observe how films would be certificated, and helped me choose the appropriate certification for my music video.

Certification - U
What does U mean?

The U  means Universal. A U film is a film suitable for al ages although its not possible to know what will upset a certain child, especially at this lower aged category .

What about works for children younger than four?
We rank films and videos target at children under 8, such as bob the builder or midnight garden, U. and we rate them with a special BBFC ranking saying they are ‘particularly suitable for pre-school children’. media products with this BBFC ranking must not raise any significant issues in terms of discrimination, drugs, imitable behaviour, language, nudity, sex, threat or violence.

Will there be any bad language in a U film?
for a movie with a U ranking there should only be infrequent use of extremely mild language (e.g. ‘damn’ and ‘hell’).

Might U works contain any sexual behaviour?
the actors might be kissing or cuddling on screen and might have references to sexual behaviour. although, there should be no overt focus on any thing sexual, such as language or innuendo.
Sex and sex references are in the eyes of the BBFC the same irrespective of sexuality so there might be mild references in a  U.

Is violence or threat permitted in a U film?
Violence if any it ill be mild. A U might include small fight scenes or scenes where people are in danger. although, these sections will quickly be resolved and the conclusions will be reassuring.
There might be short scary scenes where people are in a dangers situation. although with violence, the sections must be balanced out with reassuring sections, such as comedic sections or music.
villain characters might  use weapons, but these weapons must not be highlighted and the hero characters should not use any sort of weapon outside of situations such as historical settings.

What about behaviour which children might copy?
any dangerous or anti-social characteristics that young children might copy, should be obviously disapproved of.

What kind of films are usually passed at U?
A U movie can use a variety of themes, so long as the use of theme is suitable for a young audience. although not all U's are children’s films.

U should have positive themes and messages such as loyalty, honesty and friendship. The movie  should have a happy ending and the overall tone should be positive.
U films should not have any discriminatory language or behaviour except if it's clearly disapproved of.

Will there be references to drugs?
In a U there should be no references to drugs except if there is it bust have an obvious clear anti-drugs message which must be seen by a younger audience.
Drugs references which would not be picked up by children may occasionally be passed at U

Certification - PG

What does PG mean?
PG(Parental Guidance) This ranking is given to a film made for general viewing, but some aspects  could be inappropriate for children. A PG must not upset a child  eight or older. Parents should judge if the movie might upset young, or sensitive, children.

Are all PG films made for younger audiences?
a few movies are ranked PG but did not target a young audience market. one example of this situation of a movie mostly enjoyed by adults but ranked PG would be breakfast at tiffany . although, the ranking means all themes in the work are appropriate for this age range and should not upset a child aged eight or above.

What sort of themes are passed at PG?
A PG should not have any theme which is un suitable for someone 8 and above. PG's can explore challenging themes that include  bullying, bereavement or racism.

Will there be bad language in a PG film?
it might include mild bad language in a PG . Although it must not be out of context and the delivery is important. For example, if the language is used to hurt someones feelings or its's repetitively used , the movie must be passed at a higher category.

What about sex?
Sex references are rare but they might include some that are undetailed and infrequent. also, if the a child won't get the  reference, BBFC might allow it PG. The use of humour  also  lessens the impact of sex references and innuendo.

Sex and sex references are seen as the same so there could be mild or undetailed references at PG.
What about violence or threat at PG?
Violence must be mild and must be brief in a PG , for example we could se some blood, but we would not directly see the injury in detail. the BBFC are more lineament to words violence in a historical, comedic or fantasy moveis ,as it provides distancing . It's very common for a PG films to include roller-coaster action ,as the emphasis is obviously on the  journey of the characters instead of the detail on the violence or fighting.

for threat and horror goes, BBFC would accept 'jump' moments and frightening sequences as long as they are not too intense.

What about behaviour children might copy?
In a PG ,  dangerous or antisocial behaviour that children could copy this includes bullying, or playing with fire, will not be allowed, and definitely if it's portrayed as safe or fun. easily accessible weapons E.G knives, should not be highlighted in the PG. Smoking and drinking should not be highlighted and any characters seen smoking should have a clear message saying its bad.

Will there be any drugs in a PG?
There could be references to drugs in a PG work, but there must be no focus on them. also drug references could be allowed if it is an educational message on anti drugs likely to be seen and acknowledged by children eight or over.

Legal &/or ethical issues P2 (g)

legal and ethical issues
in this post i will be discussing the legal and ethical issues of producing a music video i will also be displaying my documents used to crete a legal and ethically correct music video.

When producing a media product such as a music video, it is essential to consider copyright laws. The importance of this very high, and if one did not abide by the law they could face litigation, leading to great fines or even imprisonment depending on the extent of the crime.

Copyright is a form of protection provided by laws giving full ownership and media rights to the creators of an original pieces of work, including books, drama, art and musical pieces of work. This entitles them to control how exactly these pieces of work are used, distributed and shared.

Acquiring consent (licensing) from the legal copyright owner gives copyright permission to use the material or pieces of work created by the owner for various purposes, I have used this process to obtain permission to use 'come with me now"
Below shows the various emails involved when acquiring the license and copyright permission to use come with me now . My Email to universal music records company for the availability to use there track for my music project

The response I got from universal music group declining my application for the rights.

We chose a new song and sent another email to the music company asking for permission to use there song for are video.

we didn't get a reply from the kongos so we have gone ahead with the project

these are contracts one for the location we want to use
and one for the actors we are using
